Event Descriptions

Bible Study- Bible Study will be studying a few books of the Bible more closely. This will include reading a few chapters a week and then getting together to discuss any questions you have and also the historical context and how the scripture could be applied to us. The Bible Study meets weekly on Sunday from 5-7 PM while supper is served from 7-7:30 PM.

Covenant- Covenant groups are one of the strengths of this ministry. They are small groups that meet and focus on discussion and accountability. It is geared towards growing together as a group and growing in our faith through discussion and prayer. This is your chance to have a smaller group of people that you can really know deeper and have as people to keep you walking forward in your walk of faith. Our covenants this year include:

  • Basics of Faith Covenant - a covenant discussing the foundations of our faith. This is a covenant where you don't have to know everything about the Bible, but where you can learn more about it and the principles of faith. This is lead by Dixie on Mondays from 7-9 PM in the Wesley House.
  • Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World - a girls covenant using the book Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World. This is a group where you can develop your relationship with God so you can be a woman of faith. This is lead by Leslie in the Lounge of the Wesley House from 8-9:30 PM on Mondays.
  • Wild at Heart - a guys covenant dealing with the struggles of being a man of faith. This covenant is lead by Bing and will be heald in the prayer chapel of the Wesley House from 8-10 PM on Tuesdays.
  • Gilmore Girls Covenant- a girls covenant that will begin by watching Gilmore Girls and then after the show we will be having a covenant. We will be starting off with material called Out of a Salt Shaker. This covenant is lead by Margaret and Andrea will meet at the Wesley House at 6:50 PM on Tuesdays to walk over to Margaret and Leslie's apartment.

Officer Meetings- Officer’s Meetings are required for all officers but it is open to any member of Wesley. We meet and plan events, but we also focus on building up our officer team through social activities, devotions, and prayer.

Board meetings- Board Meetings are also required of each officer, but again open to any member of Wesley. The Board is made up of students and adults from area churches. They make many “administrative” decisions about the ministry. Board Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of every month at 5:15 PM.

Outreach meetings- Outreach meetings are focused on ways to spread Christ onto the campuses of SMS, Drury, and OTC. Outreach also focuses on drawing people to Wesley and helping people find a campus ministry to call home. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday on the month immediately after Tryst and are open to any Wesley member.

Tryst- Tryst is our main weekly worship. It is where the large group comes together. We sing, listen to a short devotion and a message, and pray. It is a great time to worship God and get to know other people. We have food and fellowship after worship. Tryst is on Wednesday at 8:45 PM. There is also an extended prayer time before Tryst at 8:05 PM.

DIBS - This stands for Dinner in Blair Shannon and is for those students living on campus to meet and eat together. We will be having DIBS on Thursday nights at 6 PM in the Atrium. This is the area off to the left by where the deli sandwiches and hamburgers are located.

Prayer at the House-The prayer time at the Wesley House is open to anyone who wishes to gather in a group prayer setting. Prayer is at 8:05 PM on Wednesday. Prayer is also held at 10 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Game Night at the House- This is a time for Wesleyans to come together and have fun. Activities can range from basketball to cards to Whose Line. It is a laid-back atmosphere for friends to join in fellowship. Game Night is organized by those Wesleyans living at the Wesley House and will take place on Thursday nights at 7:30 PM.

Jammin’ with Jesus-Jammin’ with Jesus is a time of singing and prayer. We realize that many people worship through music and this is a time of worship mainly focused on singing. We often end in a time of prayer. Jammin’ with Jesus is held on the second and fourth Friday at 7 PM.

UMW & UMM- We have a United Methodist Women (UMW) chapter and a United Methodist Men (UMM) chapter within our Wesley Foundation. These two groups focus on missions and connecting to the United Methodist Church as a whole.

The Wesley House is located at 816 S. National across from Cheek Hall on the SMSU Campus.
All events are held in the Wesley House unless otherwise noted.
